Lengte langer dan 100 cm
Zodra de langste zijde meer dan 100–120 cm bedraagt, valt het buiten de automatische sorteerlijnen van koeriersdiensten zoals DHL en UPS. Ook wel een lang pakket of lengtezending genoemd.
Omtrek boven 300 cm
Omtrek = lengte + (2 × breedte) + (2 × hoogte). Overschrijd je 300 cm, dan geldt bij UPS een toeslag voor groot pakket. Boven 400 cm: extra toeslag.
Uitzonderlijk
Pakketten met een afwijkende vorm, grote vlakken of zeer lange afmetingen moeten buiten de standaard procedures worden verwerkt. Dit verhoogt de kosten groot pakket versturen.
Vliegtuigbeperking
Bij luchtvracht geldt een maximale hoogte van 160 cm vanwege het laadruim van passagierstoestellen. Dit is een harde grens die niet onderhandelbaar is. Is het pakket hoger, dan worden de kosten duurder en afvoermogelijkheden minder.
